Dear KiO Community,
Recently, many changes have been implemented by the Player Council. With this KiO News, we would like to look back briefly at the changes made so far, explain the reasoning behind them, and outline what is coming in the near future.
First of all, we want to explain the reason for so many changes in such a short period of time. Every single member of the Player Council brought forward topics that needed to be discussed, evaluated, and ultimately addressed. We all agreed that one of the biggest problems is the enormous difference in strength between power gamers and casuals.
In the past, teams that have been playing for years—sometimes for over a decade—were able to save up hundreds of billions on their accounts. While the introduction of the Titans decreased the amount of KiO-$, it also made teams increasingly stronger. Combined with teams that regularly buy packs and teams that snatch up every limited specialist from the transfer market within seconds, managers were able to build teams so powerful that casual players no longer stood a chance. This assessment was shared by many managers who repeatedly brought this issue to our attention.
Our first official action, however, was of a different nature. We restricted the Youth Idol Counter Ace (JA). We considered this step urgently necessary, as some teams were exploiting this limited specialist by fielding 11 of them in Clan Cups. Naturally, they lost every match, but they also generated 11 talent points per game. That can amount to over 100 talent points a day. Since this kind of „management“ has nothing to do with a football manager game, we put a stop to this exploit.
Our next action was to prevent the transfer of limited specialists. This was partly in response to the exploitation of the JAs (as we do not want a repeat of that situation), but also partly in response to teams with multiple strength specialists who overrun their opponents through pure strength, without any tactics or management skills. Thanks to this change, we can now introduce limited specialists in the future that previously could never have existed, as having more than two of these specialists per team would have completely destabilized the game’s balancing.
With the changes made so far, we have already taken a step toward reducing the gap in strength. However, the problem remained that teams with limited specialist training could still have a massive advantage over other teams at any time. Here, too, we wanted to find a way to keep strength specialists useful, but not unfair. We agreed on a strength cap. Because this requires a certain lead time to prevent compensation claims for purchased packs, we have only announced this change so far and have not yet implemented it.
The final cause of the enormous differences in strength is the Titans. Over time, we have seen that they are a good and sensible way to drain accumulated money from player accounts—an effect that the campaigns unfortunately failed to achieve. We want to maintain this effect, but we also want to level the playing field a bit more in terms of strength. Therefore, we finally agreed to reduce the maximum strength of the Titans from 110 to 105, while keeping the maximum price the same. This way, managers who have saved up a lot of money can still buy an advantage over other teams, but at the same time, the advantage is not so overwhelming that a victory is guaranteed.
We have received a lot of feedback—especially regarding the price adjustments. We take your feedback very seriously and discuss it regularly within the Player Council; both positive and negative feedback (at this point, we want to explicitly mention again that we represent the entire KiO Community and every piece of constructive feedback helps!). An important point that has been brought up several times, and which some of you might be wondering about, is why we haven’t launched a survey yet. We would like to briefly explain why we didn’t start with a survey for this. We perceived the gap in strength as the most critical problem—one that not only needed to be solved, but solved quickly. Furthermore, there were numerous ideas on how to tackle the issue and exactly how strictly strength should be capped, for example. If we had conducted a survey for everything, there likely wouldn’t have been any changes until autumn. Therefore, as the Player Council, we decided to push forward with the adjustments that have already been implemented and those that have been announced.
However, because we do listen to your feedback, we want to launch a survey to gauge your satisfaction with the changes made so far. Since the price adjustments and the strength reduction of the Titans still need time to reflect in the actual game, we deliberately want to wait a little while before putting out this survey. Ultimately, the purpose of the survey is to evaluate the actual impact on the game, not to gather speculation on how the game might change. So, you can expect a survey in a few weeks. Of course, we are more than happy to receive any feedback in the meantime—either via the KiO Chat or by email at spielerrat@ludetis.de.
If the overall satisfaction turns out to be negative, further adjustments can always be made, or some changes could even be reversed. Please keep in mind, however, that the restriction on limited specialists is exempt from this. That adjustment has already been announced, and managers currently using their strength specialists are only doing so because a strength cap will soon be applied to them. Reversing this specific adjustment retroactively would be unfair to those managers.
We hope that this KiO News has created more transparency regarding our decisions. We look forward to your continued feedback. Stay tuned for the next KiO News video on YouTube, where the Player Council will introduce itself!
Best regards, Your Player Council
